Literature
Pharmacokinetic measurements have started to become an
integrated part of the early drug discovery process. There is an
urgent need to measure the pharmacokinetic properties of a large
number of potential drug leads in order to obtain data that can be
used in the selection process.
With Harlan Laboratories DiaLab®
AccuSampler® we are able to determine the plasma
concentration profiles for a wide range of pharmacokinetic
measurement protocols. Test items can be delivered manually by any
route of administration. The AccuSampler® yields far
more reliable data than manual procedures.
Catheters are inserted into the common carotid artery (for blood
sampling) and the femoral vein (for IV bolus or continuous
administration) of rats and are exteriorized via an anchor button
at the nape of the neck. the catheters are connected to the
AccuSampler® (for blood sampling) or infusion pump (for
administration).
Advantages
- Fast method for screening of new drug leads
- Blood sampling at different timepoints from same animal
resulting in increased quality
- Time points overnight
- Splitting of samples collected at the same timepoint for
determination of different parameters
- Manual or automatic drug delivery
- Number of animals can be minimized
- Animals can moove freely
- No stressful handling (especially important for hormone and
enzyme determinations)
- Computerised data
