Maintenance and screening of genetically engineered colonies is of paramount importance to any research program. Harlan GenScreen™ has developed the Harlan GenCheck™ Genotyping program which provides high throughput molecular technologies in a format that investigators can easily integrate into their busy laboratories. A variety of technologies are utilized to ensure efficient sample and information transfer, high quality nucleic acid extraction, sensitive and specific testing, and robust analysis allowing for the detection and quantitation of gain or loss of function mutations and single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs).

The process begins by delivering your tissue biopsies to Harlan GenScreen™ using your own vessels or preregistered plates that we will provide to you. Within a few days of sample receipt, an e-mail will alert you that your password protected genotyping results are ready for review on our Web site.

Harlan GenCheck™ Rapid DNA Isolation
DNA extraction is performed in an automated fashion utilizing high throughput robotics and customized chemistries. We have partnered with Promega to provide high quality, high yield DNA from tail, digit, ear and other tissue biopsies. Following extraction, all samples are catalogued in 2-D barcoded tube racks ensuring accuracy and easy identification of archived samples when used for additional testing. Efficiency of high quality DNA extraction is routinely monitored and we have successfully extracted high quality DNA from 99.8 percent of samples from over 250,000 extractions. All samples are archived for at least four months to provide investigators time to compare screening results and DNA from previous evaluations.
