To ensure fast processing, please draft your purchase orders using the correct name, age, weight, and sex of the animals. Standing orders are encouraged to assure an adequate supply of the animals you require. With a standing order, we will establish and maintain a rigid shipping schedule according to your instructions.

Shipping: Animals normally are shipped in Harlan environmentally controlled vehicles. Our vehicles, ranging in size from vans to semitractor trailers, make regularly scheduled deliveries over a network of truck routes encompassing most of the United States. Air shipments will be made from airports located near our production facilities.

Special Services: If special pre-shipment animal treatment is required, please let us know at the time your order is placed so that your animals will arrive in the condition you specify.

Pregnant Animal Policy: Harlan uses well established, proven techniques to successfully produce timed pregnant rats, mice, hamsters, guinea pigs, and rabbits. We use an Impedence Meter for determining the stage of estrus in rats prior to breeding. Timed pregnant rats and mice are determined by observation of a vaginal plug. Plug date is considered to be day zero (0) of gestation. Due to the natural variation in the length of gestation, the exact day of parturition cannot be guaranteed. In addition, Harlan cannot guarantee the minimum number of pups per litter. On all orders for pregnant females and mothers with litter, we recommend water transit kits or gel transit packets be added to the shipment. Requests for credit and/or replacement animals may be declined if the customer selects not to add these to their order. Please be aware that late-term pregnant animals may deliver their litter prematurely while in transit, and depending on the circumstances involved, requests for credit or replacement of these animals may be declined. If problems regarding gestational age or pregnancy are encountered, customers should immediately contact Harlan’s Customer Services Department and provide detailed information regarding the animals involved. Timely reporting of any problems encountered is critical in order to process requests for credit and/or replacement animals.
