Metabolism and residue studies in livestock provide information on the behavior of a chemical in poultry and cattle and the residues in products and meats. Harlan Laboratories has years of experience in performing these studies with radiolabelled test compounds, including the quantification, characterization, and, if required, identification of the chemical and its metabolites.
Data from these studies are used in the interpretation of toxicological findings of plant protection products, veterinary products and industrial chemicals, and in evaluating the potential exposure of these substances to man.
Hen and goat metabolism studies are available in accordance with the following guidelines:
- OPPTS 860.1300: Residue chemistry test guidelines, EPA 712-C-96-172: Nature of the residue - plants, livestock, August 1996
- EC working document, 1607/VI/97, rev. 2: Guidelines for the generation of data concerning residues as provided in Annex II part A, section 6 and Annex III, part A, section 8 of Directive 91/414/EEC concerning the placing of plant protection products on the market, 10 June 1999; Appendix F, 7030/VI/95 rev.3: Metabolism and distribution in domestic animals, 22 July 1997
- OECD guideline for the testing of chemicals 503: Metabolism in livestock, 8 January 2007
Livestock feeding studies (cow and hen) are available in accordance with the following guidelines:
- OPPTS 860.1480: Residue chemistry test guidelines, EPA 712-C-96-182; Meat/Milk/Poultry/Eggs, August 1996
- EC working document, 1607/VI/97, rev. 2: Guidelines for the generation of data concerning residues as provided in Annex II part A, section 6 and Annex III, part A, section 8 of Directive 91/414/EEC concerning the placing of plant protection products on the market, 10 June 1999; Appendix G, 7031/VI/95 rev.4: Livestock feeding studies, 22 July, 1996
