Fetal Bovine Serum

Harlan Bioproducts for Science, Inc. (HBPS) supplies the highest quality Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS) to research and industry. Our serum is collected from USA origin USDA inspected plants. HBPS has over 20 years of experience in collecting blood from a number of animal species. Our understanding of the importance of lot-to-lot consistency, endotoxin levels, and hemoglobin concentration enables us to provide you with the highest quality product possible at a competitive price.

Product Usage

  • HBPS FBS can be used in cell culture for growth stimulation/promotion of a wide variety of primary tissue culture cells and established cell lines. The serum concentration needed for growth promotion varies from cell to cell. For most cells, the concentration ranges from 5% to 20%.

Product Performance

  • All lots of FBS are tested for growth promotion with a wide variety of cell lines. Relative growth is determined by comparison with an in-house FBS standard.

Comparisons are made for growth promotion, doubling time, and plating efficiency. Tests are carried out after three passages of the cells in the test serum and the FBS standard. Throughout the testing procedure, cells are observed microscopically for any cytopathogenic effects. In addition, each lot is tested for its ability to support terminal dilution of hybridoma cell lines.
