Teklad Dog Diets are complete fixed-formula diets designed to
provide all essential nutrients required by dogs to achieve
efficient growth, maintenance, and reproduction. Additional dietary
supplements are unnecessary. Choose from several diets to best
meet your needs.
Protein from animal and plant sources provides the proper
balance of essential amino acids to maintain efficient functioning
of the dog's body throughout its life cycle. High-quality animal
fat is an excellent source of concentrated energy and
essential fatty acids required to promote and support the general
condition of research dogs, lactating bitches, and growing puppies.
Fat also enhances palatability.
Teklad Dog Diets are fortified with the proper amounts and
balance of vitamins and minerals required to help regulate body
systems and fluids, strengthen teeth and bones, and maintain good
blood, skin, and coat condition. The dog lab diets are extruded to
help break down starches. This results in improved digestibility
and palatability.
Shelf Life - The recommended shelf life of
Teklad Dog Diets is six months from the date of
manufacture. However, shelf life may be affected by storage
conditions. To achieve optimum shelf life, store the diets in a
cool, dry, pest-free area away from hazardous materials.
Feeding Directions - Teklad Dog Diets are
designed to be fed to dogs under research conditions. Select the
feeding method which keeps the animal in the proper body condition.
The amount of food the research dog needs depends upon its size,
age, breed, temperament, and amount of exercise.
Feeding the Expectant Mother - Feed the
pregnant bitch twice a day or ad libitum. Moisten the diet
for her first few feedings after whelping. Thereafter, allow ad
libitum access to diet and also feed her moistened food once a
day.
Feeding the Puppies - Puppies will start eating
diet (either moistened or dry) when they are about four weeks old.
To encourage them to eat, add one cup water to each cup of dog
food. Initially, feed the moistened food three times daily. The
daily feedings (either dry or moistened) can be reduced to two as
the puppies grow. The self-feeding program is ideal for puppies
since they like to chew on dry food. They also can eat when they
are hungry, assuring proper and adequate nutrition.
