BALB/c Congenic Mice Origin
- The C.C3H-H-2k/OlaHsd congenic
line is developed by Dr. Frank Lilly, Department of Genetics,
Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York. From Stanford
University, California, to Clinical Research Centre, Harrow. From
Clinical Research Centre to OLAC (now Harlan Laboratories) in
1977.
BALB/c Congenic Mice
Characteristics
- Coat: Albino
- Haplotype: H-2k
- The inbred partner is BALB/cJ and the donor strain is C3H,
resulting in the differential locus
H-2k
- Following administration of murine cytomegalovirus, BALB/c,
BALB.B, and BALB.K mice develop persistent myocarditis regardless
of age at infection, and age-related cardiopathy is frequent and
severe in infected and uninfected mice
- Resistant to infection with Onchocerca lienalis
- Early development of lymphocytic choriomeningitis, compared to
C3H/HeJ and CBA/H
