Dogs are only available from Europe

Facility management

  • Dogs are housed in protected concrete pens with indoor areas and outdoor exercise areas.
  • Controlled access to facility.
  • Emergency generator to safeguard integrity of systems.
  • Chlorinated, filtered water provided ad libitum via automatic watering valves.

Colony management

  • Careful and thorough procedures and recordkeeping are followed for breeder selection. To control unwanted characteristics, selection criteria include size, conformation, temperament, color, general health, and physical characteristics, as well as progenitor productivity.
  • Individual breeder records are maintained on both hard copy and electronic databases. This ensures documented pedigrees, mating of unrelated animals and provides data for historical reference purposes.
  • Examinations, weight checks, vaccinations, prophylactic treatments, tattooing and pen transfers are performed during exercise periods to ensure that the dogs can be handled in the research environment.
  • Pens are constructed and maintained to assure optimal safety, sanitation, socialization, and observation by technicians. Pens are sanitized daily.
  • Use of standardized Teklad diets (ad libitum) to optimize nutrition for pregnant or lactating bitches and rapidly growing pups.
  • Environmental controls for animal welfare meet or exceed applicable standards of European regulatory agencies, UK Home Office, and USDA.
  • Prior to shipment, all dogs are individually examined by a veterinary surgeon to ensure conformity to customer specifications.
