  • Harlan acquired the Fox Chase SCID beige mutant mouse from the Fox Chase Cancer Center, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA in 1991.  

Fox Chase SCID Beige Mutant Mouse Characteristics

  • Coat: Albino
  • Severe combined immunodeficieny resulting from Prkdcscid autosomal recessive, single nucleotide polymorphism on chromosome 16
  • Lystbg autosomal recessive mutation on chromosome 13
  • T-lymphocyte deficiency
  • B-lymphocyte deficiency
  • Diminished Natural Killer (NK) cell activity 
  • Rudimentary thymus
  • "Leaky" phenotype significantly suppressed relative to other SCID® models
  • Highly susceptible to opportunistic viral and bacterial infection
